The Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) has grown into the busiest rural/suburban volunteer fire department in Ontario County, New York, responding to approximately 750 calls for service annually. With a proud history spanning more than 75 years, the CVFD remains 100% volunteer-driven—delivering fire, medical, water, and rope rescue services to our community through a diverse and dedicated team of Firefighters, Medical First Responders-EMTs, and Special Operations Technicians.

MISSION

Clearly stated and intentionally simplistic, our mission accurately reflects the organization’s overall purpose:

The Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department’s mission is to provide an appropriate, safe, and professional response to fire, medical, water, and environmental emergencies for the communities we serve and our mutual aid partners.

VISION

Building on this mission, the membership has established forward-looking goals that reflect our commitment to excellence. Our vision includes:

      •     Continually exceeding our community’s expectations in protecting life, property, and the environment.

      •     Providing our team members with the skills, tools, and equipment necessary to serve effectively.

      •     Maintaining a respectful and compassionate environment for all members.

VALUES

Recognizing that our shared values and culture define who we are, the CVFD embraces a set of core principles, including:

      •     Safety

      •     Professionalism

      •     Teamwork

      •     Excellence

      •     Camaraderie

ABOUT US

The CVFD proudly protects a large portion of the Town of Canandaigua—specifically the areas south and west of the city and the entire west shore of Canandaigua Lake, from the city line to the southern tip of Bristol Harbor. We operate out of two stations: Station 1, located on State Route 21 South in the Hamlet of Cheshire, and Station 2, located on State Routes 5 & 20 across from the Canandaigua Town Hall.

Founded in the late 1940s with a single station and a “home-made” fire truck, our department has grown and evolved while staying true to the spirit of volunteer service that inspired our beginnings.
